What is the ideal age at which to neuter your pet dog and cat

Although there is no precise age at which a female dog or cat should be sterilized, it is current practice to perform this surgery before they come into their first season, as there are more benefits to be gained. The most important of these is the significantly reduced risk of mamary cancer and the elimination of the risk of unwanted litters of pups or kittens. Over 50% of dog and cat litters are neither planned nor desired. We recommend therefore that any age between 4 and 9 months is generally a good time to spay a bitch and between 4 and 6 months for queens. But as we have many breeds of various sizes and shapes there may be more specific recommendations for each of them so you should always consult your vet to know which is the most appropriate for your 4 legged companion.
